Things To Avoid While Pregnant
As we mentioned, you are probably aware of things that you can’t do, but in case you just found out that you are pregnant or need a quick refresher on the things you should avoid while you are pregnant, we have got you covered. The list of things to avoid is informational. It may include additional restrictions depending on your health, which is why you should always consult with your physician to see if there are other things you should avoid during your pregnancy (medication, physical activity, etc.)
- Do not smoke (avoid secondhand smoke as much as possible)
- Do not drink alcohol or excessive amounts of caffeine
- Avoid raw foods
- Avoid stressful situations
- Avoid excessive amounts of sugar or processed foods
- Avoid overexertion
- Do not eat raw meats or fish
- Do not sit in a hot tub or sauna
- Talk to your doctor about medications that you are currently taking
- Avoid changing your kitty litter (seems like a strange thing to include, but cat feces–along with raw meat consumption– can carry toxoplasmosis, a rare parasitic disease)
- Avoid sitting or standing for long periods
Fun Things To Do While Pregnant
Pregnancy is a joyous and memorable time for most new parents, but adjusting to some of the new restrictions may be a bit more challenging than you thought, especially because you may grow impatient waiting for your little one to arrive. But as you are learning to adjust to your changing body and new lifestyle, it’s important to remember that with every “don’t” comes a long list of “do’s”! If you are looking for fun things to do while pregnant, here are our favorite activities:
- Join a Prenatal Class or Birthing Class
Your idea of “fun” may not be sitting in a classroom, but preparing for your baby along with other expecting parents, can be highly satisfying for moms-to-be. It can also be an excellent way for your partner to feel involved and to learn how to support you during pregnancy and labor. Classes vary but most cover breathing techniques, relaxation techniques and other methods for handling pain or discomfort. If you are a first time parent, prenatal classes can be a great place to discuss or learn more about post-delivery options such as cord blood banking or cord tissue banking. - Have a Babymoon
One of the best activities to do with your partner before your baby’s arrival is to enjoy some quality time together. A babymoon is a celebratory occasion for you and your partner, but instead of taking place after marriage as a honeymoon, it takes place before the baby arrives! - Light Exercise or Prenatal Yoga
Light or low-intensity exercises such as walking, swimming, prenatal yoga, or biking can be highly beneficial during pregnancy. Stay hydrated during any physical activity, and be sure to talk with your doctor about what exercises are okay for you. - Pamper Yourself
Pregnancy can be physically and mentally exhausting at times, and it is essential to show yourself some love before the arrival of your little one. One of the best ways to pamper yourself is getting a prenatal massage (some spas even offer all-day prenatal spa packages). Another way to pamper yourself from your couch is by online shopping! As you begin to grow out of your clothes, you should start to shop for cute and comfortable maternity clothing. - Photo Shoot
Being pregnant is beautiful, so why not capture this special moment on camera? Pregnancy photoshoots have gained popularity over the years, but it can be a great time for you to get creative with your baby bump.
Once the baby is born, there will be plenty of activities to keep you busy, but in the meantime, we hope that you can enjoy some of the ideas on this list.
