Whether you’re a new mom or an expert with multiples, every pregnancy is different, and post-partum care and hormones can differ. It's important to focus on yourself and your recovery along with baby’s. Baby comes with lots of love, snuggles, and responsibilities. Setting aside time for yourself, and as seasoned Mom’s say, “sleeping when baby sleeps” can really be just what you need!

Bringing home baby….
Most moms are so focused on childbirth that recovery gets put on the back burner. Preparing for recovery and your first moments home WITHOUT a nursing staff can be overwhelming, to say the least. As most moms have a birthing plan set in place, we’ve made a list of things to help with your self-care after baby.

Sleep when the baby sleeps.

A few things to consider:

Rest

Mentioned above, rest is obviously much needed! Napping or even just resting when baby is sleeping can help you not only heal faster, but get you prepared for baby’s next needs.

Friends and Family

Letting friends and family visit and asking them to bring you something that you NEED or WANT. Like your favorite meal, cozy socks, or even something more personal. Having family and friends around to help with things around the house while you care for baby can be just the break you need!

Schedule something just for you!

Making time for yourself is important. Take time by scheduling a hair appointment, getting a mani-pedi, or even going shopping for some post-partum clothes. This may be your first chance to get some non-pregnancy clothes in almost a year! Take time away while baby is sleeping or leave a bottle at home for family while you get some personal time away.

Join a mom group

Make time for you and baby to go out together to meet other moms and babies. Joining a mom community can help lighten the load of motherhood. Connecting with other mom’s who are going through the same things you are at the same time you are can be just the outlet you need.

Exercise

Once your doctor has ok’d you to do light exercise, do some yoga or pilates to get your body loosened up. Your body has gone through so much in the last year, so doing basic yoga and stretching can help increase your energy level and get your body and mind rejuvenated for each day.

Nourish your body

Healthy eating habits can accelerate your road to recovery. Having a balanced diet such as whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and proteins will help your body heal faster. As moms, we must put ourselves first to have the energy to care for baby. Staying hydrated is also a necessity for aiding the recovery process.

Set a Routine

Establish a routine. Getting baby on a set routine will help with fussiness and overtiredness. Knowing the times baby eats, sleeps, etc. will help diminish the downfalls and meet baby’s needs. Routines are not set in stone, so remember to stay flexible and adjust as baby grows.

Everyone’s recovery is different; these are just a few ideas to get you prepared for postpartum and self-care.
